Welcome to the Club

We would like to extend a very warm welcome all our new club members!

Some signed up at our recent event at Djouce and others joined last year. We are pleased that new members include both 'beginners' who are new to the sport and advanced orienteer’s returning to our club.You are all very welcome and hope you have an enjoyable and successful orienteering season in 2010.

New members include and in no particular order:



  • Rachel Andrews, John McCarroll and family of Sophie, Isobel, Hedos and Theo, moving to Setanta from Sligo Orienteers.

  • Sean Murray - Sean is involved in planning adventure races and has now taken up orienteering.

  • Paul Keville and Aoife Desmond - Paul and Aoife joined at the National Trail's Day in Hellfire. Aoife took part in the 2009 Wife Carrying World Championship in Finland, although not carried by Paul!!

  • Jane Harrison, fairly new to orienteering and hopefully will enjoy the sport.

  • Finbar McGurren, has a strong background in adventure racing so started orienteering for Setanta on the Long course at Djouce!  

  • Joan Byrne, Mike Hanley and family Meadbh and Sean have successfully completed a number of Orange courses in 2009 and are keen to try more orienteering in 2010.

  • Angela Healy, Damian Leonard and family Matthew, Cian and Sophie, keen to enjoy taking part.

  • Mark and Sue Hitchen and family Sasha, Zara and Layla joined the club at our Djouce event. Mark has tried orienteering a few years ago and is returning to the sport with family this time around.

  • Declan and Ruairí Donnelly - Declan and Ruairí were so enthusiastic after the short course in Djouce, that Ruairi gave the medium a go which of course is a bit tougher.

  • Yvonne and Mark Cummins - Mark and Yvonne started orienteering, in at the deep end, on the long course at the Night-o in Massy's Estate but we were glad to see that it didn't put them off.

  • Richard Wagstaff - Richard started orienteering with Mark at the Night-O events and has even tried daylight orienteering at Donadea, of course starting on the Long course to make it hard!

  • Éamon Mac Fhionnlaoich, Maureen McGinley and Oisín who are new to the club and have completed a few courses already.

Rejoining the club after taking some time off from orienteering or from the club:



  • Angela Higgens, Dave Ballesty and family Cillian and Setanta - Dave, Angela and family are friends of Terry's. With a son called Setanta what other club could the join. Angela has orienteered for the club before.

  • Roisin McDonnell, Keith Fitzsimmons and family Siofra and Caoimhe - Roisin and Keith are avid kayakers and Roisin has been a keen adventurer racer in the past. Roisin Siofra and Caoimhe have all orienteered with Setanta before.

  • Denis Deasy - Denis returned to the club after many years in England, with strong background in orienteering, mountain biking and adventure racing.

  • Alastair Yarrow - Alastair is an experienced orienteer, so it is great to see him back in the club.

Thanks to everyone who has renewed their membership for 2010. Apologies to any new members or rejoinders that are missing from the above and apologies for any spelling errors.
