Stone Cross to Lug relay
For those of you who are unfamiliar, the Stone Cross to Lug relay is an open mountain relay race hosted by IMRA(Irish Mountain Running Association) and organised this year by Setanta's Phillip Brennan. This year will be the 30th year that the race is held and we hope to see a good turn out, hopefully recreating the epic orienteering club battles of old. CNOC are already psyched up for the challenge. Let's hope Setanta can hold on to our podium position from the Wicklow Way relay.
The format of the race is 3 members per team. The first leg starts at Stone Cross and takes you over the summits of Corrig, Seefingan and Kippure before finishing at the Sally Gap. The second leg then takes you over the summits of Carrigvore, Gravale, Duff Hill, Mullaghcleevaun, Stoney Top and Tonelagee before finishing in the Wicklow Gap. Finally, leg 3 takes you up past Turlough Hill, across to Convalla, Table Mountain, Camenabologue, reaching peak height at Lugnacoille before the fast descent down over Camarahill finishing in Fenton's pub in Glen of Imaal. Spectacular views of the Wicklow mountains the whole way, you really get the sense of taking part in something epic. The leg distances are 13km, 16km and 23km respectively.
For more information, the event page is here: http://www.imra.ie/events/view/id/760/ . The event is planned for the 21st of August starting at 8am. A report from the 2009 race can be found here.
