A Good Day at the Club Introductory Event

Thanks to Dave for putting on the Club Introductory Event last weekend. Everyone had a great day out. It was such a warm sunny day, how couldn't we!! We had picnics, the boys went bug collecting, there was the chance to pet a horse that came past and there was huge excitement when a frog was found - it was the first time a lot of the kids had seen a frog, one little princess even wanted to kiss it!! And of course there was the orienteering....

We had a good turn out of 25 - 30 club members which was great to see. Dave had a handout of orienteering tips and techniques which he gave to all the new members. Everyone was given a chance to read through this before Dave talked them through it and explained how to use some of the techniques. Then it was time to take a map and go and practice what they had just learned. I think everyone found this very useful.

There were also a good number of more experienced members out for a run. They reported back with their feedback on the permanent orienteering courses. Using the POCs was great for a training event as the reduced the organisation required. There was no need to put out or collect controls. It was also great to see 2 scout groups out with maps in their hands using the POCs also.
