2010 Club Champs and AGM
All club members are invited to the annual Club Championships, which this year will be held in the Dodder Valley/Cherryfield area - the venue is Morton's / The Firhouse Inn, just west of M50 at Junction 11, on the Firhouse Road (R114). Starts between 2 and 2:30pm
It's a friendly, informal event, with handicapping using a secret formula to give members of all abilities & ages a chance to become club champion for the year - last year's worthy champion, Tony Doolin, will face (probably insurmountable!) odds in attempting to retain his title. It will be followed by refreshments in Morton's. Friends, family and aspiring club members are welcome.
The AGM will follow at 4.30pm approximately - we need to ratify a constitution, a copy of which is available to view in the Members Content section.
Dodder Valley ParkShaped by the Dodder River, this wonderful linear park runs from the Dublin mountains through South Dublin. Historically, the Dodder and its tributaries have provided an essential source of water to the citizens of Dublin. The Poddle River was adequate for this supply until the 13th century when the weir at Firhouse was repaired and improved in order to take additional water from the Dodder.
Water was diverted through a number of sluices in a manmade channel, two miles long, known as the “City Watercourse”, part of which is incorporated into the park. The Firhouse Weir is one of the main features of the Dodder Valley with a splendid artificial waterfall. Spawell House was a popular meeting place for Dublin’s 18th-century nobility and remains a feature of today’s park.
